HiWAAY Internet Services Announces Network Facilities Upgrade

August 3, 2003

July 22, 2003 (Huntsville, Ala.) - HiWAAY Internet Services plans a major network facilities upgrade as they move their Huntsville Network Operations Center to a larger, improved facility in early August.

"HiWAAY's co-location business continues to grow, resulting in the need for us to expand our facilities," said Redge Swing, general manager of HiWAAY. "In the process, we've decided to go ahead and move to a newer, more modern building, upgrade power supplies, security features and other equipment."

HiWAAY provides co-location space at both their Huntsville and Birmingham facilities. Customers may co-locate their own full rack of servers or rent space in HiWAAY's racks.

"We continue to host more and more servers from around the world," said Andy Dorman, manager of HiWAAY's Network Operations Center. "That requires more space and plenty of uninterrupted power. Not to mention the bandwidth. Our new facility will be equipped with new UPS systems and more direct fiber connections out to the Internet."

The move will involve a complete shutdown of HiWAAY's Huntsville facilities beginning at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, through the early hours of Sunday, August 3. Email and Web hosting for all HiWAAY customers will be out of service. HiWAAY access customers in northern Alabama will be unable to connect to the Internet during the move. However, Internet access in central and southern Alabama will not be affected. More details may be found online at www.hiwaay.net/move.

"We intend to make the transition as smooth as possible with minimal interruption of service," said Dorman. "We are planning the move late Saturday night into early Sunday morning with outstanding support from BellSouth, KMC Telecom, UUNET and AT&T in relocating all our fiber backbone circuits."
